Goats for Sale

Goat sales in 2025

We are marketing 20 this calendar year. Goats for sale will appear on this page for the months of January to May and September to December. Noting that we do not sell goats in the winter months of June, July and August.

They are known as the “Russett” goat, which by definition is a young intact male around 12-18 months old (not castrated),  approaching a live-weight of 30kg (they may be listed on the web site from 20kg onwards). They are raised in the pristine Southern Highlands of NSW and roam free and graze on natural grass paddocks, supplemented by a bale of oaten hay typically once a fortnight. When grazing conditions necessitated, we will supplement the goat with grain to maintain their condition. When the kids are born, we leave them with their mothers (does) to wean naturally after 3 to 4 months, making for happier does and kids. We have some flexibility to separate them by around 6 months of age before the bucks start causing trouble.

They may be thought of as the goat equivalent of prime lamb and young enough that their meat is not tainted with a ‘buck smell’.

The “Russett” goat is priced at $110 each including GST (we can no longer absorb the government imposed GST of 10%, hence the price rise from the 2024 price of $100). To pre-order your goats, please fill in the following form.

Next sale will be on May/June 2025.

Conditions of pre-ordering. If you reserve goats in this way, we will weigh and photograph them and put them up on the website at the appropriate time with a status of ‘Reserved’ – you will then be notified and have 48 hours to complete the transaction, otherwise it reverts to ‘For Sale’ status.

We expect sales to go to three types of buyers

Land owners
Producers must have a PIC to move livestock on and off a property – it forms the basis of Australia’s food safety and traceability programs. Click here for more information.

Butcher shop
We can consign to a shop via the abattoir. The butcher will be responsible for the processing and transport fee to their butcher shop. Click here for a list of abattoirs.

Meat consumer
To turn a live goat which you purchase from us into meat for your dinner table, explore the options here.

To indicate your interest as a buyer, either place an order through the website, email doug@russettwoods.com.au or SMS 0407 280 909 and we will send you an invoice for payment before we ship the goat(s) to your destination. The invoice will include a quote for delivery. Please indicate your name and address, including PIC code if you have one, for the paperwork transferring ownership of the goat(s) to you.

If you are an individual buyer and coming to Bowral to collect your goat(s), you may elect to pay a non-refundable $50 deposit for each goat and the balance in cash on pickup. If you have paid a deposit only, we need at least 24hrs notice if your pickup day changes from the arrangements previously made, otherwise your deposit is forfeited to cover our roundup costs etc.  If the goats are being delivered to your preferred address (such as an abattoir), then payment in full is required before we ship the goat(s) to their destination.

Applicable to all goats are the following answers to the eNVD that goes with the goat delivery.
