Necessity is the Mother of Invention

The Single Bale Feeder

If you own goats, one of the biggest challenges you face is making sure that they are well fed. This is true whether you raise goats for meat, as a dairy herd or as pets.

While people often joke that they bought goats instead of a lawnmower, it is not healthy for a goat to eat only fresh grass. Goats are browsers, not grazers. They also are ruminants. This means they eat plants and digest those plants in a four-part stomach.

In addition to grazing on the luscious rolling fields of our Russett Woods Estate Southern Highlands farm, we are focused on feeding our goats a special blend of hay that provides vital nutrients they require to grow up to their ideal weight naturally and healthily.

We are always looking at ways to be more efficient on our goat meat farm and necessity is often the mother of invention.  Hence the invention of the Single Bale Feeder, which we have made available in our online store –

Single Bale Feeder Benefits (suitable for all grazing animals):

  • Prevents the feed being trampled on the ground;
  • Allows ample room goats to feed together, at least six at a time;
  • Prevents a dominant animal from pushing the others away from the feed due to 360-degree access to feed;
  • Minimises wastage of feed; and
  • Ensures you have happy, well-fed goats
