Wombat Control
At Russett Woods Estate we have a constant battle keeping fences intact under the pressure of wombats migrating across the countryside.
Wombats have a well-deserved reputation as the “bulldozers of the bush”. In our search to make wombats co-exist with goats, we have come up with three different approaches that may be of interest to farmers or landowners in a similar situation.
The general advice which we agree with is that it is prudent to wait until the wombat creates its own path by burrowing under an existing fence. The wombat being a creature of habit, will return to this path night after night to establish itself as it moves across the landscape.
Once the wombat has established its path, then you can strengthen the fence to prevent livestock escaping using one of the following three methods.
